Since moving into my Hayes Valley office space a few months ago, I have made a habit of escaping to Patricia’s Green and Proxy SF for some fresh air. For those not familiar with San Francisco, the Proxy SF is a two-block space for rotating happenings, food, art, and retail located in Hayes Valley.  If you haven’t experienced it yet, you must visit the Proxy when Carrie Caillouette and her unique rolling shoppe, Half Hitch Goods, are parked there.

Half Hitch Goods, is a rolling boutique that is presented out of the back of a vintage VW Vanagon Doka. Half Hitch carries an assortment of gift items and promotes thoughtful gift giving with a commitment to impeccable style, timelessness, quality craftsmanship, and beauty. Carrie believes the secret to gift giving is finding personal items that have meaningful product stories; whether it be that they are intricately made by hand, made of recycled materials, or perhaps that they are made by a local vendor.  Carrie and her husband visit the studios of the artisan's featured to learn about their creative and production process. They document their visits through their online Journal.

Although Carrie only purchased her shoppe-on-wheels a year and a half ago, they have been through a lot together. Carries first inspiration and sourcing road trip in the truck left her stranded in a state park due to engine failure.  Carrie has since replaced the engine and worked with a local metal vendor to creatively outfit the back of the truck with appropriate storage and display ability for her shoppe. Carrie is slowly gaining trust in the truck’s abilities and has a few road trips with the shoppe on the calendar. Molly M. Designs.

While training as an architect, Molly Mcgrath had a realization that spun her career in a different direction than she had expected. The laser cutter Molly was using daily to produce architectural models inspired her signature jewelry, wall hangings, and homewares line. 

I recently visited Molly's workspace hidden away in a Wells Fargo building in the Mission District of San Francisco. Although small in square footage, Molly's studio is open, airy, and full of inspiration. The mid-century desks and tables are neatly organized with stacks of colorful materials, papers, glues, and jewelry chains and clasps. I was in awe of how much detail and time goes into each and every piece she produces. Molly starts the design process with a sketch inspired by traveling, nature, architecture, patterns, textile designs, and optical illusions. She then drafts her concepts into Autocad and uses the laser cutter to create an intricate layered design. Molly's pieces consist of many cut layers of leathers, suede, paper, thin wood veneers, and other reclaimed materials. Her use of metallic leathers, vibrant colors, and beautiful hand chosen textiles creates a unique kaleidoscope feel in her pieces.

Last weekend the San Francisco Junior League held one of their biggest fundraisers of the year, the 19th Annual Home Tour. The tour featured five very different and beautiful homes in San Francisco's Cow Hollow & Pacific Heights districts. I had a blast designing a tablescape for a dining room on the tour. The home I was assigned to was colorful, modern, and impeccable down to every detail. I decided to keep the table simple with just a small pop of color to compliment the space. I used white matte ceramic plates and glossy persimmon bowls from Heath Ceramics. The placemats added suble texture as they were a white mesh material with a polished metal edge detail. Many thanks to Natalie Bowen Designs for donating the white hydrangea and olive branch floral arrangements - they were perfect!

Friday Favorites.

Happy Friday, friends! I am so excited to be adding a new freelance project to my plate. This week I started working with Interior Design Fair on the new Airbnb office. I have had a week full of sourcing, scheming, and more sourcing for various projects. I wanted to share with you some of my favorite recent finds.

I just love these glass wall vases! Perfect to cluster above an entry console, dresser, or desk. Each week you can pick a few flowers or branches for a fresh and seasonally changing arrangement to soften your space.

I discovered Asher Market while perusing the SF Renegade Craft Fair last weekend. Their Alpaca throws were soft, colorful, and instantly added to my personal 'wish list'. I was very impressed by this vendor!

How awesome are these removable wall designs?! I am loving the idea of using these wall features in kid's bedrooms, playrooms, or to add a fun flair to an office space. The possibilities are endless... check out Mur to see their wide range of geometric designs and colors.

Room Anatomy.

Live on Sacramento Street blog... check out this weeks Room Anatomy! As much as I am a girl for soft and subtle colors, a great punch of saturated color is great when well executed. In particular, I am loving the idea of using Benjamin Moore's "Admiral Blue" in a clients bedroom. 

To complete the space, I suggest clustering a few of Jennifer Ament's unique prints above the bed.  Each of Jennifer's pieces are hand printed in her seattle studio featuring the linocut technique where an illustration is transfered onto a linoleum surface, carved, rolled with a special type of ink, and finally pressed onto a piece of hand-milled paper from France. Jennifer takes her inspiration from natural wonders, old books from the 19th and early 20th centuries, French graphic design from the '70s and '80s.

Lazy Weekend. Busy Week.

HeLlloOO ApRiL!! Wowzers, you showed up quickly. 

The last weekend of March was a little mixture of everything... Date night at The Abbot's Cellar (a beer guru's heaven!) - a very productive client meeting in the Marina - lots of catch-up with friends - and while it rained I snuggled up for a major catch up session of 'Girls'. If anyone knows the ultimate cure for the cough that never ends I BEG AND PLEAD you to share it with me - I am determined to leave my March sickness behind!

Off to the races already for April with lighting installations starting today at the Showcase. So fun to see the space getting lit up! Check in on Thursday for a new Room Anatomy feature on Sacramento Street. This week it will be a peek into a San Francisco boy's nursery.  I guess with both my sister and a client expecting soon, nursery design is on my mind.

Featured in Elle Decor, Traditional Home, SF Cronicle, Lonny Magazine, C Magazine, O Magazine, and SF Luxe all within the past few months, I feel like I keep seeing Hudson Grace popping up everywhere! This home-wares retail space opened shop around Halloween of 2012 in San Francisco's Presidio Heights neighborhood. It is a MUST GO especially if you are in search of the perfect white dinnerware, entertaining and serving pieces, classic flatware, linen napkins in an array of bold colors, accent pillows, or European found objects. The store has a large dining table 100% covered in the latest and greatest inspirational design books, which could keep my busy and occupied for hours!

This camel brown leather paired with crisp white and accents of polished chrome create a dining space with casual yet refined perfection.
